Over the Hill

I just came back from a lunch with a 34-year-old woman from Vancouver who is looking to move to New York City.  This is exactly the age that I moved to NYC from Vancouver. I remember feeling so ancient to be starting to re-define and re-build my life but now, as I sat across from her nearing 41 with another completely life-altering scenario at home in his crib, I was struck at how important it is to not buy into the myth that you’re too old for a change.  A divorce, a new job, a child, a new city, a mortgage – these can all seem so daunting when we’re looking at the clock feeling like there’s not enough time to meet a new guy, start the business we’ve always dreamed about and even more honestly, recover if this change of ours doesn’t turn out to be all that we hoped. As we left lunch, I wanted to leave her with some ground-breaking, awe-inspiring, get your ass out here to NYC kinda last words but all I could come up with is this:  It’s never too late.

    Hi Nicole!

I love your books. It’s true. It’s always never too late for change to happen. We only live once in this life. We better live it to the fullest/

I’m a little older than your target audience: I’ll be 40 next year, but have found your books to be inspirational to the point of life-altering. When I heard that you were pregnant, I wondered how you were going to adapt to all the wonderful changes motherhood brings while still bringing your best self to work every day. I’m happy to see that it seems you’ve found a balance. (This is something that I struggle with.) I would definitely agree that “it’s never too late” is the right message. Along with that, I would also say that most of us have a nagging feeling that we would be farther along in some of our life goals than we are. A lot of people let this sense of opportunities missed keep us in a rut.

Couldn’t be addressed any better! Glancing this post reminds me of my old room partner! He constantly kept babbling about this. I will certainly dispatch this article to him. Pretty sure he is going to have a pleasant examine! Thanks for sharing.
