Girls On Film

We’re in the midst of interviewing job candidates and I have one piece of advice for anyone and everyone pounding the pavement: Before you sit down for a tete a tete with a potential employer, have a friend interview you on camera and look for those little things you do that are highly irritating. Here are the top three things that you’re doing to distract your listener:

1) Overuse of words…and for some reason it seems the word of the season is “super.”   Super excited. Super competitive.   Super cute. I literally heard ‘super’ three times in one sentence this afternoon.   Super irritating.

2) Hand gestures.  Picking your nails, twirling your hair, pulling down your skirt…which is obviously too short and leads us into…

3)  Sexed up appearance.    Too much make-up, self-tanner, perfume, and— I never thought I’d be saying this but—the sexy-dress.   I know I’m out there talking about dressing like a girl and all but I have no interest in seeing your boobs (and think most other potential employers don’t either).

I guess I missed the boat on when it became “OK” to dress sexy for an interview. Unless of course you are interviewing for a job with Hugh Heffner.

I tell ya! You’d think they were applying to Hooters.

Most important, be yourself. Don’t try to be someone you are not
